Apparently Obama an his wife are a pretty loving couple...
One of my favorite places in the world is Deep Creek Hotsprings, a grouping of primitive hotsprings far enough from civilization that it remains a pristine ethereal place to visit ( 2 hours from Los Angeles plus 1/2 hour on a rugged dirt road and a one hour hike in, 2 hour hike out...enough to keep most people away!)
I made this little movie on our last trip down. There was snow on the ground once we got into the canyon and we discovered that the river was so high that there was no way to cross but to wade across it's 34 degree width...all worth it in my opinion! Hope you like my silly little movie!
It's a bit late, but I thought I'd share this art/centerpiece I made for Christmas. You just need a cone/ Christmas tree shaped piece of Styrofoam (easily accessible at Mittytchael's or any other craft store during the holiday season), some foil, toothpicks, andBTB some veggies (I used broccoli, baby carrots, olives, cocktail onions and mini pickles). Just wrap the styrofoam in foil, stick the veggies with toothpicks and then stick the toothpicks into the styrofoam...I think the photos speak for themselves. Despite the fact the tree is super easy to make, it seems to impress a whole lot of people!
BTW...the tree is supposed to have cocktail weenies as well, hence the name....but being Vegan I decided to forgo them...
Remember that Twilight Zone episode where a family had to wear these grotesque masks until Midnight during Mardi Gras and when they took the masks off their faces had 'become' the masks? Well, I thought that was where this was going
This has to be the creepiest product ever made. After watching the awesome (and REAL) video below, you can buy one for yourself here
A couple of months ago, while at the thrift store, I found a ton of vintage slides (according to the dates on the back, 1961-1964) for $2. Shortly thereafter I found a post on Craftster about making slide lampshades. This weekend I found an awesome lamp base on sale for $9 at Urban Outfitters and I decided it was time to make my slide lampshade. Here is the result!
Did you know that you can grow an avocado tree from that pit you took from the avocado you used to make your guacamole? Neither did I!!
It's super simple; just take the pit from your avocado and let it dry for 48 hours. Peel the brown outer skin off and discard. Stick three toothpicks in the pit (in the shape of a triangle), fill a jar with warm water and let the bottom/widest part of the avocado soak in a warm window sill. After a couple of weeks the pit will sprout roots at the bottom and a stem at the top...once the stem is 3 inches tall you can plant it in a pot. After growing in it's pot for about a year you can plant it outdoors and await an awesome avocado bearing tree!
Here is a pic of my avocado pits beginning the process!
A Taco Bell location near my parents house recently underwent a complete renovation. The result was a fast food restaurant with the feeling of a nice, comfortable sit down place where one can slowly savor their meal, complete with some interesting artwork. The only problem is that this 'artwork', is a blatant rip off of Jean Michel Basquiat's work.
The moment I saw it I thought 'Basquiat', and upon closer inspection I saw that not only was the ad artist ripping off Basquiat's style, they were also ripping off his signature crown image (see the lower left and right hand sides of the image). Is this OK? I really don't know. There are about five different paintings in this Taco Bell location, all in Basquiat style, all with Basquiat crowns. What do you think?
The other night Timmy and I had Craft Night at our place and my brother and his ladyfriend joined us for a night of making 'Ugly Dolls', which will be, when I have a minute, donated to the childrens hospital. Check out the photos of the food, fun and crafting that is 'CRAFT NIGHT!'
